Red Velvet – the new cadmium-free red hue from Preciosa Components – was featured alongside Paris Hilton as part of Christian Cowan’s Powerpuff Girls themed fashion show for International Women’s Day.
The striking new shade, which is the first of its kind in the world, featured on the outfit created for iconic Powerpuff villain HIM, in a stunning piece comprised of Cowan’s trademark checkerboard print in black and red.
Cowan posted specifically about the dress and Red Velvet on his Instagram, saying: “She’s him. This dress features the world’s first cadmium free red crystals. During manufacturing toxic Cadmium is used and can leak and highly pollute the environment. These new crystals created by @preciosacomponents are a huge step towards sustainable fashion.”
The show took place in LA on Friday 8th March, and was attended by multiple big names including Heidi Klum, Erika Jayne, Tinashe, and Carly Rae Jepsen.
The collection itself was an official collaboration between Cowan and the Cartoon Network, fulfilling a long-held goal of his.
“When I was growing up, I watched the show all the time. I probably watched hundreds of episodes. I first reached out to the Powerpuff Girls when I first came to America; I hadn't done a show yet and they were like, 'Let's wait’. Then they reached out and they were like ‘yeah, what do you want to do?'"
A highlight of the show was undoubtedly Paris Hilton, who closed out proceedings dressed in a full latex body suit and tulle mini dress, micro Chihuahua in hand of course.
All proceeds went towards She’s the First, a nonprofit organization that fights gender inequality through education.
