Indian Customers Welcome The Alpha

Last month, at a private viewing in Mumbai, the Preciosa team unveiled our re-imagined Round Brilliant cut, The Alpha, in the company of media, invited guests and esteemed business partners. As one of the most important global markets for fine jewelry and precious metals, such as gold and silver, India is home to some of our most important and long-standing customers with whom we were honored to celebrate the launch of a new industry benchmark.

In attendance at the gathering were two of Thailand’s most internationally acclaimed designers, Ek Thongprasert and Sarran Youkongdee, who both designed showcase pieces for the occasion, as well as special guest and Preciosa brand ambassador, New York fashion designer, Bibhu Mohapatra. Born and raised in India, Bibhu Mohapatra drew inspiration from his own heritage for his design contribution, a gold-plated headband inlaid with various Alpha stones called “The Taj,” which means “imperial crown.”

“In India, jewelry is cultural; from the time a child is born, each piece he or she receives, and wears serves a specific purpose or symbolizes something special,” said Bibhu. “For this project, I wanted to create a piece that magnifies and highlights the importance and power of women.”

Also on display at the event were two custom eyewear designs by New York based label, A-morir, a traditionally inspired Ganesha necklace and earrings designed and handcrafted by Anoma Jewels in Bangalore, and one-of-a-kind commemorative necklace by Prague design studio Zorya, which comprises 86 stones in each of the 86 individual stages of the cutting and polishing process it takes to create a single Alpha stone.
